ALERT: READ THIS IF YOU INSTALLED TRINITY BEFORE 4 A.M. GMT
If you have Windows AND upgraded EVE Online: Trinity Classic before 4 A.M. GMT to Premium using the content upgrade path then you MUST read this before doing anything else.
- PLEASE DO NOT REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER
- Check the root directory of your hard drive and see if you have a boot.ini file. Boot.ini file is normally hidden so you need to click Tools : Folder Options : View and select “Show hidden files and folders” and uncheck “Hide protected operating system files” to be able to see it. You can also check for the presence of this file by clicking Start : Control Panel : System : Advanced : Startup and Recovery : Settings (third button down). Windows will alert you if the boot.ini file is missing.
- If boot.ini is still there then you are not affected and do not have to take any further steps.
- If boot.ini is NOT there then please click here: FORUM LINK
We have removed the faulty updater so anyone installing the Trinity Expansion now will not be effected.
A new updater will be available shortly.
We apologize profusely for this error and are working on offering more extensive help those that have a non-working Windows PC, so please stay tuned.
So basically , if you downloaded and applied the EVE Trinity patch before 4am GMT (I assume CCP have re-released the patch) you lose your boot.ini file
For anyone that doesn’t know the boot.ini file tells the Windows bootloader where and what OS to load.
So basically if you had applied this patch and then rebooted the PC – it won’t boot again without having to do a fix (See here for fix)
That’s one awful mistake to make…a game patch is bad enough if it creates problems in its own “environment” (i.e. the game location) – but to remove one of the most important OS files from the system is madness
I wonder who did the testing for this…I wonder if they are hiding in the loos are this very moment ?
Heh, I’m sure whoever tested it didn’t think to reboot their computer after applying the patch lol…I know I wouldn’t have…I can just see them installing, playing, killing some of his buddies, logging off and saying “w00t! Good to go! Let her rip!” …shutting off their computers, grabbing some coffee or a beer, watching a little T.V. coming back 2 hours later and turning on their computers and letting out a big “W-T-F!?!”

@g0thicicecream
Yer
and what the hell did they need to delete the boot.ini file for ?
I bet some joker put it in the patch as an office prank and they left it in
“Hey Magnus – you are sooo funny…now my PC won’t boot”
2 days later
“MAGNUS you idiot you left that delete command in the patch !!”
I think what’s worse is apparently some beta testers spotted this problem days ago and CCP still released the patch
Also even people that downloaded the patch after 4 AM GMT were getting the same issue.
